the artisan

My name is Priscila. I was born in a small town in the Amazon, in Brazil, and grew up surrounded by pristine and powerful nature. This made me strong, determined, I know what I want and I love to venture, explore. I am cheerful, intuitive, but most of all I love to make the people around me happy, to make them smile. After studying, I taught philosophy at a school in Brazil for 5 years, but inside I was cradling the dream of leaving and, without realizing it, I was preparing my great trip.

So in 2017, I arrived in Nepal. 20 days of trekking in the Himalayan mountains, passing through small villages, walking and reflecting on life, on the meaning of my being in the world. In the end, I knew that I would not go back, that I would change my life and work. I still had no idea what I was going to do and I asked myself: “What am I capable of doing?” But I had no answers. So I changed the question and started asking myself: “What would I like to learn?". A perspective that opened up new possibilities: I realized that I wanted a creative job, that I wanted to learn how to create with my hands.

Samba Artigianale handbags are made in Florence, Italy. Each bag is carefully created and assembled by the hands of Priscila Lira with the utmost attention to detail. Slow fashion, careful craftsmanship, and a little Samba music in the background create the perfect scenario for a bespoke handbag to come to life.

Samba Artigianale was born from the fusion between the tradition of Italian craftsmanship with the flare of Brazil.

May, 2018: my first artisan school in Paris, leather goods. I was seduced by the gestures of the trade, the contact of the hands with the skin and leather. Here I created my first bag. In September I arrived in Florence: I had read about the great artisan tradition of Italian and Florentine leather goods.

Here, in 2019 I attended the Florence Leather School to learn how to create leather bags in an artisanal way.

Thus was born SAMBA Artigianale, from the fusion between the tradition of Italian craftsmanship and the joyful Brazilian spirit.

Samba Artigianale offers its unique artisanal “objects” as an alternative to fast fashion, to mass consumption. An ancient wisdom with a contemporary, bright and joyful design So that my clients’ lives have their own dance rhythm.

The suppliers of Samba Artigianale are chosen based on their attention to respect for the environment: vegetable tanning, origin of animals and the natural coloring process of the skin. I work myself with great attention to the environment to avoid the use of harmful substances and waste of energy.

Responsible Production - Origin of materials
  • Natural materials: vegetable tanned leathers from Italy following the Tuscan tradition and respect for the environment.

The animals come from small farms located in Europe and from the food chain.

  • Natural skin coloring Following an eco-sustainable approach, the natural skin coloring process creates bags of warm and intense colors. Aniline is an organic compound based on carbon, absolutely transparent, which allows you to color the skin without changing its natural appearance.

  • The inside of the bags is lined with selected Italian fabrics.

  • The metalwork is from Italy.

  • Local production: local suppliers to promote local production and limit the pollution caused by transport.
